Training at Agroplásticos: learn to get the most out of your greenhouse’s plastic

At Agroplásticos, Grupo Plastilene’s Ecuadorian company, we are committed to the sector ‘s growth through an integral approach. This includes specialized training for our clients, install team, and farm workers in the flower sector.

These initiatives don’t only promote best practices, but they also help maximise the  use of greenhouse plastic, which is essential for high quality rose production.

Training in Utopia: a step towards excellence

We recently held a training session at Utopia farm, gathering their maintenance and management team. The training focused on key concepts, like proper storage, installation, and care of greenhouse plastic. With a focus on sharing practical  advice, such as how to handle the material rolls properly, proper installation techniques, maintaining ideal optical and physical properties through maintenance and cleaning schedules.

These events are part of Agroplásticos’ constant efforts to guarantee that our clients use our products to their fullest potential. Our commitment to our clients does not end at the delivery of quality plastic, but extends through the human factor and proper training of workers at farms. Through this we seek to reduce cost, as well as improve results.

Our four pillars for training

There are four fundamental areas, which adapt to the specific needs of each farm:

  1. Storage and handling of material rolls: we raise awareness regarding the proper care and handling of material, since with their own weight these can morph, lose their chemical properties, and injure employees. We train them to prevent this damage that might lead to significant losses.
  2. Optical characteristics identification: this module is directed mostly to the install team and technical managers. We share ways to know the differences between plastics varieties, understand their specifications, and ensure it is ideal for the specific crop they work with. Choosing the wrong material can negatively affect the quality of the flowers.
  3. Installation techniques: we share best practices to install plastics. One of the things we teach, for example, is how to prevent overstretching of plastic film. Many installers use empirical practices and then stretch the plastic beyond its limits, compromising its performance. We aim to promote techniques that maintain the properties of the material.
  4. Washing of plastic: regular maintenance is essential to prolong the lifespan of greenhouse plastic as well as guarantee its efficacy. Factors like dust, humidity, and chemical residue can reduce the amount of light that reaches the plants, affecting its ability to photosynthesize and consequently the yield.

Our training helps promote best practices in the use of plastic, extending its lifespan, and optimizing its performance, all of which aids in cost reduction.

Our experience: Agroplásticos’ added value

At Agroplásticos, we are convinced that in person training has an inherent added value. It has proven to help address the specific needs of our clients and streamline the way we do so. These sessions represent a unique opportunity to have a positive impact and share information in a practical manner, as well as build trust. All of this has secured our place as key partners in the flower industry.

Because of high staff turnover at farms, it is important to reinforce this information periodically. At Agroplásticos we differentiate ourselves in the market by not only offering this service, but with how closely we work with our clients. We are more than suppliers, we are key allies to our clients’ success.

If you are an Agroplásticos client, don’t miss your chance to schedule a training session for your team. These trainings are at no added cost and are a valuable opportunity to maximize the use of greenhouse plastics at your farm. Reach out to us to ensure your employees are prepared to take advantage of all the benefits our products offer.
