Innovation in Action: We Celebrate Plastilene’s first Innovation Fair in Soacha, Colombia

At Plastilene Group we are excited to share details regarding our first Innovation Fair, attended by our employees on April 18th, 2024 and was held in our plant in Soacha, Colombia. The event was organized by our Sustainable Portfolio team, and introduced main portfolio achievements: our mono material innovations, PCR content, and other products that support sustainability.

We plan to replicate this Innovation Fair in other factories since it proved to be an important space to share new information and strengthen knowledge on what the organization has been working on. There were 5 different stands with different themes where select factory employees were given technical talks.

Five areas of innovation

The event had 5 Areas of Innovation that covered the different axis of our innovation strategy:
Innovation strategy and CSR:
In this first area we explained the origin of our innovation strategy and infinity diagram with its main focuses, and detailed our social responsibility focus. We also shared with them our sustainability report online.

Mono Materials that ease recyclability:
We explained the process that we go through with our clients to take them from multi material packaging into mono materials. Through this we improve recycling and therefore minimize the environmental impact.

Paperlike Innovation:
We introduced a plastic that mimics paper, an innovation that led us into the US market. This material mixes functionality and sustainability, and has great moisture resistance.

Circular economy in action:
This area explained the process that Reciclene goes through to ensure the recirculation of plastics so that they can be then used at Plastilene and Altalene to produce new packaging. Consumer education was highlighted, as well as the support for waste pickers, and the investment into our post consumer factory, the largest in the country dedicated to flexible packaging.

Grupo Plastilene Globally:
Lastly, we shared some of the work we do in Guatemala and how from there we supply the entirety of Central America, as well as Technofilms’ sustainable innovations, and our sustainable portfolio in the US.

It was a great opportunity to promote awareness amongst our operating team, and show them how their work creates high quality products that end up on store shelves. Their pride and the incentive to continue with the work was palpable.

We thank our Sustainable Portfolio team for sharing their work with our operative and administrative branches. Because of you our employees were able to learn everything we have to offer our clients
We still have much to do, but events like these show us that we’re on the right track. Let’s continue with more energy and commitment!
