Grupo Plastilene bets on high quality plastics for greenhouses

Flowers are much more than a symbol of beauty: they reflect an ecosystem in equilibrium. But, what happens when they’re not in their ideal environment? This impacts their growth and quality, making them not stand out as much in the market. High quality flower growing  hinges on different factors, one of the most important being the plastic used in greenhouses.

At Grupo Plastilene we have shown that material innovation can radically transform flower quality and our newest collaboration with NIRP is a testament to this: proving how the plastic  we produce ensures that every petal is perfect.

A legacy of innovation in agricultural plastics

For many years we have been working with the flower industry. Our entrance into the market began in Colombia, developing specialized plastics solutions. We later arrived in Ecuador, one of the main exporters of flowers in the world, to support this demanding market with high quality products that follow ecodesign guidelines.

Our plastics greenhouse technology meets very specific technical requirements. Key factors such as the management of light, UV ray protection, are all carefully considered in the formulas created to guarantee an ideal microclimate for export flowers.

NIRP and proving a positive impact

NIRP Roses is a key partner of Grupo Plastilene in Ecuador. They invited us to be part of their showroom where we were able to showcase our specially designed plastic for greenhouses that optimizes yield and thereby facilitating healthy flowers.

This partnership, aside from reinforcing our commitment to quality, shows our focus on supporting and serving our clients. We don’t only provide a product, but we are involved in the productive process of our clients, and offer tailor made solutions that guarantee results that can transform the flower industry.

Sustainability at every step

One of our key considerations is the management of the end of life of our materials. When the plastic for greenhouses has completed its role at farms, we ensure that it is picked up and managed responsibly by authorized waste managers. This process avoids waste from ending up in the natural environment, or at informal waste centers. Through these actions we promote a circular economy model in the industry.

Today we work with around five authorized waste managers that work in a large part of the country. They collect, transport, store, and manage the plastic for greenhouses at its end of life.

Transforming the flower industry together

Our experience with NIRP is a reflection of our essence as suppliers in the agricultural industry: to provide trusted solutions that optimize production, guarantee a controlled microclimate, and improve the quality of flowers. With every partnership we reaffirm our commitment with innovation, sustainability, and the development of the flower industry in the region.

At Grupo Plastilene we continue working to transform the industry and prove that the future of the flower industry is found in the combination of technology, quality, and environmental responsibility.
