Sustainability at the Plastilene Group
Our sustainable innovation strategy began towards the end of 2017 and it was based on 4 premises:
- Plastic is threatened by our society’s lack of education, cultural knowledge as well as the excessive use of plastic in a number of applications.
- We want to be innovative leaders with a social and environmental conscience.
- Our customers are sensitive to the sustainable management of packaging.
- Regulatory frameworks that address the sustainable management of plastic are on the rise.
- Sustainability steers our relationship with interest groups strategically within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGSs) linked to materials.
We work along different management lines for a more sustainable planet:
- Projects with our customers to become aligned with their sustainability programs and goals.
- Projects with providers to become aligned with their sustainability programs and goals.
- Strengthening our portfolio of sustainable products.
- Business models to close the loop of plastics.
- Internal Environmental management to measure greenhouse gas emissions at our plants.
- Active participation in associations to develop joint initiatives and perform constant surveillance of regulations that may affect the plastics industry.
- Financial Management to obtain resources for sustainability projects.
- Initiatives implemented alongside employees and vulnerable communities within the framework of social responsibility
- Raising citizen awareness; fostering communication and positioning the group and the plastics industry.
Sustainability Scheme
Our circular economy strategy was defined as a roadmap for future projects:
“we will guarantee the supply of recycled raw material, hand in hand with our clients and providers and find applications that make their use valuable and minimize demands, to secure a competitive portfolio of sustainable products.”
We have been developing initiatives in Social Responsibility and the Circular Economy alongside our clients and providers, as it has been very important to ensure that they understand and take ownership of EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) and other legislations linked to our activity. Additionally, we are in the process of strengthening our portfolio of sustainable products and using tools to measure their life span.
We have found – alongside our clients and providers – that in the face of the threat to plastic, closing the life cycle of long-lasting products is a way of contributing extensively to the community and it has been an opportunity to highlight the advantages of our materials. We have demonstrated that it is possible to contribute to the circular economy responsibly, given that we possess more than 30 years of experience in the recovery of post-industrial material. We also possess knowledge and the technological foundations to explore the recovery of post-consumption material.
We are aiming for a society that can improve its quality of life; landfill sites that no longer receive tons of plastic; recyclers by trade that can participate in the economy of the country and a balanced image for our company and industry.
