Grupo Plastilene got certified for its 100% recycled content plastic packaging for construction

Plastilene S.A.S. got certified under the Colombian Technical Law (NTC) 6632:2022 for its Termolene UV PCR100. This is a coextruded film developed to protect products such as those in the construction industry, made of 100% postconsumer national recycled plastic content.

The certification was granted in July of 2026 by the Product and Processes Certification Body (CPR) from the Education and Investigation Institute for Plastics and Rubber (ICIPC). This verifies that the recycled plastic content meets the requirements  for Termolene UV PCR100 in transparent and blue. The product’s certification will last until 2029, subject to compliance with the requirements established by the certifying body.

What does this certification mean?

NTC 6632:2022 establishes certain requirements regarding the traceability and conformity evaluation of the recycled plastic and its recycled content. In this case, the scope of the certification is associated specifically with recycled plastic content of the end products from the evaluated traceability.

This is important because the certification does not make up a general declaration regarding all Plastilene products. Their scope is limited to the references that were audited and certified, just as the ICIPC’s standards of the CPR.

A process that demanded to prove the traceability

Obtaining the certification meant reviewing not only the product’s composition, but also the way that Plastilene controls it and proves the material’s traceability throughout its operation.

The process was developed in two stages. The first was focused on the review of the internal process documentation and the information of the processes used.

After which there was an auditing process on site. Manufacturing, Purchasing, Logistics, Quality Assurance, R&D, Product Engineering, Management Systems and Facilities participated in this process. The auditing process made it so we could bring together evidence of the traceability process of the organization, backed up by the information recorded on the ERP SAP system, amongst other tools.

The certification therefore, is the result of a transverse process that brought together different supply chain stages and demanded proving through evidence how we receive, control, transform, and use the recycled raw materials.

From brick packaging to an alternative for the construction sector

One of the applications of our Termolene UV PCR100 is its use to protect the bricks manufactured by Ladrillera Santafé. However, its use can be applied to the protection of other products in the construction sector, including glass, doors, windows, and bathroom accessories.

According to the information compiled during the project, the product does not only answer to the current requirements regarding recycled content, but goes above the target that was put in place for the construction sector in 2030. This proves its role as an alternative to move forward in the recycling of postconsumer materials.

The certification also has an economic impact. The packaging used to protect the bricks was taxed with a single use plastic specific tax but thanks to this achievement it will be exempt.

This is how a decision related to circularity and traceability can create an impact beyond the makeup of a product: it can also open new application possibilities and make it more competitive.

Circularity that connects different stages

This development also proves the importance of working in an articulated manner within the supply chain. The raw materials used (Ciclolene® resins) come from Reciclene, a Grupo Plastilene company, a material that is also certified by the NTC 6632.

This is how the recovered postconsumer material can be used again in new applications, meanwhile traceability allows the recycled content to be backed up for its final use.

For Plastilene, the certification for Termolene UV PCR100 represents a concrete advance in this direction: moving from using recycled materials to prove, through an auditing process, how much material is used and maintains its traceability.

Because moving towards a circular economy in plastics also means producing verifiable information that allows companies to make more trustworthy decisions throughout the supply chains.
