At Grupo Plastilene, innovation comes from within
Innovation is not something that stems from one source, or that is just one person’s job. At Grupo Plastilene innovation is a way to think, work, and collaborate. It is part of our culture and DNA as an organization. To celebrate Global Innovation and Creativity Day, we want to share how we live and breathe innovation.

A path built collectively
Yohana García is a chemical engineer and throughout her two decades at Plastilene she has carried out different roles. She began her journey in Innovation Development, then moved into Quality, Especial Projects, and today is our Director of Innovation. Her story reflects how innovation has evolved in our Group, to create robust strategies that connect us to universities, startups, clients, and strategic partners.
For her, innovation is not just throwing new ideas out there, but mobilizing people, opening up spaces to discuss, easing access to tools, and creating a collaborative ecosystem. “Innovation doesn’t mean a person inventing something, it is building as a team, taking advantage of collective knowledge that can respond to real challenges” she told us. She summed it up as “ innovation is done with people, and supported by culture”

Making Every Day Better is also Innovation
Wilson Capacho, part of the AC Coextrusion Operative team at Plastilene Tocancipá. He has been at Grupo Plastilene for 29 years, and has seen how the technology, processes, and the teams have evolved and improved. He has learned from scratch to operate complex machinery and be a part of pilot processes that allow us today to develop more sustainable and efficient solutions.
“Everything used to be mechanical, but Plastilene has grown with time. We have had opportunities to learn, use more advanced machinery, and pursue technical innovation” he says. What is essential for him is that innovation also happens in mundane things, such as small improvements that help build his knowledge and experience.

A strategy that challenges and connects us
At Grupo Plastilene our innovation has evolved to support sustainability. We created a position of Director of Sustainability, and designed our own system, inspired by international standards and through internal innovation fairs, contests, public innovation challenges, training, and having spaces where we can co-create solutions with other actors in the ecosystem.
However, beyond these initiatives, what drives us is our purpose: to innovate with direction, to create value for our stakeholders, strengthen our operations, and contribute to sustainable solutions in the world. We do all of this knowing that the road is not linear, that not all ideas prosper, but that each attempt leaves us with valuable learning experiences.
This is how we live and breathe innovation
Innovation is part of who we are, it means questioning what has been established, it means collaborating, and being daring. It means being open to change, even when it’s not easy. It’s learning from other points of view, trying and failing, learning, and trying again, but above all doing it together.
At Grupo Plastilene we believe that innovation is a transformative process, and that’s why for us innovation is more than just a goal, but it’s the way we build our future.
