In a world where sustainability and environmental responsibility have become imperative, female leadership in the circular economy emerges as a transformational force. From different corners around the world, 16 female leaders, each with their own story and experience, came together in Germany. They convened for a specialized course financed by the German Cooperation, GIZ. Amongst them was Luisa Fernanda Ribero, Corporate Sustainability Chief of Grupo Plastilene.
The meeting, directed by female leaders committed to advancing a circular economy, attracted a diverse group of participants from Colombia, Germany, Albania, Georgia, Kosovo, and South Africa. Each of them has a unique story to tell: entrepreneurs with zero waste businesses, professors that integrated circular economy principles in their classrooms, and public sector representatives that work hand in hand with community leaders. They all had a goal of supporting sustainability from their diverse roles.
During the five days of the course the combination of theory and practice in the course gave the participants the opportunity to explore leadership fundamentals. It also allowed them to witness the challenges and opportunities of a circular economy.
A visit to a local business was especially revealing. This group of female leaders was introduced to an innovative business model that focused on selling reusable plastic baskets to transport fruits and vegetables. With this program waste was significantly reduced.
One of the most valuable aspects of this experience was the exchange of knowledge and the human connection amongst its participants. Starting with the exchange of inspiring stories, to debates on leadership strategies. The bond between these women was powerful and enriching.
For Grupo Plastilene, supporting the training, and personal and professional development of their employees is a priority. This experience was an opportunity to improve capabilities, and acquire new knowledge, as well as strengthen ties within the company, promoting a feeling of community and collaboration.
Lastly, the message is clear: female leadership empowerment in the circular economy is not only beneficial to the companies and communities they work in, but also enriches their personal and professional lives. Grupo Plastilene is committed to continue supporting their employees in the search for knowledge and excellence, fully knowing that the return on investment is translated into more complete humans, more effective leaders, and a more sustainable future for everyone.
